We love a good knees-up here at Apple County, especially if it involves a garden, having a boogie, and gorging ourselves on good food and drink….
Steph has been planning a small get together for some friends at the farm over the last couple of weeks, and she got to thinking… whilst our lovely guests would never say no to a cold and refreshing cider, sometimes it’s nice to spice things up a bit and go, perhaps a little more, up-market…
And then it hit her – why not put a snazzy summery twist on our favourite tipple? The perfect opportunity for us to put our creative skills to the test whilst making sure you and our guests are happy (and possibly rather tipsy) bunnies.
So, here are the results of some rather fun taster sessions. We hope they’re as much fun for you to make as they were for us, and that they add a touch of class to your summer garden bash. Cheers!
N.B All of these cocktails work best when the cider has been chilled nicely in the fridge!
Whitehouse Mimosa
1 measure orange juice (freshly squeezed is best!)
1 measure of our Vilberie
1 teaspoon Ginger Liqueur (try The King’s Ginger – it’s delish)
Garnish: Small orange wedge
Pour the juice into a Champagne flute and add the liqueur, stirring well. Then, tilting the flute at a slight angle, gently add in the cider and stir. If you’re feeling extra fancy, add a slice of orange as a garnish!
Sweet as Pie
1 bottle of our Dabinett Medium
1 dash Butterscotch schnapps
Pour the chilled cider in to a high glass and add the schnapps to taste!
Gee Up
1 measure Dabinett
2 measures Peach schnapps
2 measures Vodka
Ice
Put a couple of ice cubes into a tall glass, and add the vodka. Gently pour in the cider until the glass is half full, and then top it up with the schnapps.
Rhubarb Rules
1 measure gin
2 measures raspberry juice
4-5 measures Rhubarb Cider
Rhubarb stick, lime and mint to garnish
Add the gin and juice to a glass, then carefully pour the rhubarb cider in. Garnish with the rhubarb stick which doubles as a stirrer! Yum!
Cranberry Kick
2 measures cranberry juice
1 measure orange juice (smooth)
1 measure vodka
1 bottle Vilberie
Cocktail Shaker
Fill your cocktail shaker with ice and add the cranberry juice, orange juice and vodka. Shake it well and then add it in to a glass filled with ice. Top it up with the cider and garnish with a slice of fruit!
Dark Horse
2 measures of Ginger Beer
Dash of Lime Juice
1 measure Dark Rum
1 measure Dabinett
First pop the rum and lime juice in a glass (with ice – optional), then pour in the ginger beer then the Dabinett carefully.
Apple Margarita
Ice
1 measure gold tequila
1 measure triple sec
5 measures Vilberie
Directions
Add the ice, tequila, and triple sec to a glass then top it up with the cider and stir.
Tip: for an extra bit on this one, coat the rim of the glass with cinnamon and sugar!
