Steph and Francis have been busy exploring the perfect Father’s Day celebration for Ben, and came up with such brilliant ideas, we thought we’d better share them with you!
Ben loves a BBQ! Well really…who doesn’t?! We can’t think of many better ways of spending a Summer’s afternoon than sitting outside in the sunshine with a burger in one hand and a glass in the other! We’ve found a couple of really delicious BBQ recipes you can cook for your dedicated Dads, as well as some tasty accompaniments…
Obviously, we had to feature a cider-based BBQ recipe 😉 A great way to get the deliciously sweet-apple taste into meats for the BBQ is by marinating them in cider. Head here for a cracking guide on marinated ribs!
If you’d rather drink your cider rather than add it to your dish, try this spicy chicken kebab recipe by Antony Worrall Thompson. They’re easy enough for the whole family to get stuck in and help make them, and are also perfect for the grown-ups to enjoy with a bottle of our Vilberie!
For those with a little less time to prepare, The Preservation Society – another Welsh artisan producer – make an absolutely delicious ‘Banging BBQ Sauce’, perfect for slathering your BBQ meat of choice with! Bim’s Kitchen also offer a fabulous range of sauces, great for spicing things up (in the kitchen only!).
If you and your Dad are outdoorsy and adventurous types, the Monmouthshire area is a renowned fly-fishing region, offering the perfect father-child bonding time activity. Even better, you can use whatever you catch for your BBQ dinner! Local fishing clubs near us include Trigate Bridge or Skenfrith – which also means you’ll be close enough to us to pop in to our farm shop for your river-side refreshments – but there are lots of dedicated fishing spots you can pick from. Head over to the Fishing Passport website here, or the Monmouth Fishing website, and for our shop opening times visit our website here. Jamie Oliver has produced a delicious BBQ’d trout recipe that’s really easy to create with your catch – yum!
Alternatively, if you’d rather be ON the water than next to it, canoeing through the Wye Valley is a brilliant way to see some gorgeous wild countryside, and spend quality time with your Dad! The Wyedean Canoe & Adventure Centre, and the River Wye Canoe Hire are two of many canoe hire companies you can contact to book your boats. We’re a short drive from the canoe hire places, so after a busy morning of canoeing head our way and we can sort you out with a much needed refreshments in the form of our Orchard Picnic. Following that, if you’re still thirsty, you can visit our cellar door for a tasting session…
And if you really don’t want the fun to end, or you fancy trying ALL of these wonderful wild outdoor activities, why not make a weekend of it and camp under the stars in the beautiful Welsh countryside? Toasting marshmallows on the camp fire….singing songs, strumming on your guitar…perfection! Three Castles is a really nice campsite near to us and Skenfrith castle – for more info head over to their website here. The Hendre Farmhouse Orchard Campsite is slightly further away but offers more space, and is a fab spot for exploring local walks!
We’d love to be a part of your Father’s Day, so as a special gift to you all, we’re offering free delivery on all of our cases of bottles until June 23rd on our online shop, so that you can order your Dad’s favourite Apple County tipple, and enjoy the perfect accompaniment to your barbie. Just FYI we have amended the cost of the cases in the online shop already to incorporate this offer!
Wherever you are, we’re wishing all the Father’s out there a very happy Father’s Day!
